How To Open Minecraft Mac

broken image

If already had Minecraft for mac it would only make sense to allow those users to crossplay, too. Therefore, I would prefer to have a bedrock edition for mac so that I don't have to pay another $30 in my life because I have also had Minecraft for Xbox 360 and spending over sixty dollars on one game is too much for a kid who doesn't get paid. If you're a Mac user, you can open the folder through Spotlight: Press ⌘ Command + Space or open the Spotlight popup through the magnifying glass icon on the right of the Menu Bar. Type /Library/Application Support/minecraft and hit ↵ Enter. On Linux or macOS, the in the path refers to the home directory. I need a guide not for computer experts. I have read so many guides, and don't understand anything they are saying. I need a guide for beginners. Minecraftserver.jar won't open. It just says like 'The java jar file could not be launched'. Oh, and I just downloaded the latest minecraftserver.jar file, in case that helps.

This article is about the folder in Java Edition. For the folder in Bedrock Edition, see com.mojang.
This feature is exclusive to Java Edition.

.minecraft (or simply minecraft in macOS) is the folder Minecraft creates to run from. This folder includes the .jar files, sound, music, resource packs, personal options, worlds, etc.

Locating .minecraft[edit]

Below is a table showing the default directory for .minecraft.

OSLocation
Windows%APPDATA%.minecraft
macOS~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
Linux~/.minecraft

Locating the .minecraft folder can be vital for installing a resource pack, or to locate any made screenshots.

Logo de mac. The Windows location in the table above is just the default case. Launchers can set the .minecraft at any path.

How To Open Minecraft Maps In Windows 10

If you're a Windows user and are unfamiliar with how to find your appdata folder, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start → Run. If you don't see 'Run', press ⊞ Windows + R.
  2. Type %APPDATA%.minecraft and click 'OK'.

If you're a Mac user, you can open the folder through Spotlight:

  1. Press ⌘ Command + Space or open the Spotlight popup through the magnifying glass icon on the right of the Menu Bar.
  2. Type ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft and hit ↵ Enter.

On Linux or macOS, the ~ in the path refers to the home directory. Folders starting with a . are hidden by default. In most file managers, hitting Ctrl + H toggles their hidden status. In macOS specifically, since version 10.12 (Sierra), the shortcut ⌘ Command + ⇧ Shift + . toggles the hidden status of files.

If you want to change directory of the .minecraft folder, see Tutorials/Custom Minecraft directory.

.minecraft file hierarchy[edit]

Use of a resource pack can be forced by naming its zip file to resources.zip and placing it in the root folder of the world save.[1] This feature is single-player only;[2] however, there is another way for servers to ask clients if they want to use the server resource pack.

For windows OS and linux, the contents of nativelog.txt and nativeUpdaterLog.txt can be found within launcher_log.txt when applicable (i.e. the contents ofnativeUpdaterLog.txt will only be present in latest_log.txt after the launcher is updated / launched for the first time).

My 14 year old son is really into the online world / game simulation Minecraft. My Mac laptop is our only home computer with adequate RAM and processor speed to run the program, so he's regularly competing with me these days for laptop screen time. This month I've installed a new (and larger) hard drive on my laptop, so that's necessitated re-installation of all our software programs as well as data migration for programs which save files in places other than my documents folder. One of our challenges was figuring out how to transfer his saved Minecraft virtual worlds (which he's spent literally hundreds of hours creating over the past six months) from the old hard drive to the new one.

Mac macro app. To learn how to transfer the saved Minecraft files in the Mac OS X operating system, we turned (of course) to YouTube tutorials like this one. It showed the file path to Minecraft files on our Mac:
– Hard Drive
— Users
— your user folder
—- Library
—– Application Support
—— Minecraft
——- Saves

The problem we ran into, however, is the LIBRARY folder in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion is 'hidden' by default. This is a 'new feature' by Apple ostensibly provided to protect users from deleting or moving critical system files. In this case, however, it meant Alexander's Minecraft files were hidden and we couldn't readily copy them.

Some additional Google searches revealed a geeky technique for using a Terminal command to show the Library in the User folder, but I really wanted something easier. (I don't like to use the Terminal at all, and rarely resort to solutions which require it.)

It turns out there IS a much easier way to show your Library folder inside your home folder in Mac OS 10.7 Lion: Simply hold down the OPTION key in the Finder and choose the GO menu at the top of the screen. Your user Library folder will show up in the drop down menu, and you can select it to open it.

After opening the Library folder, open Application Support, Minecraft, and Saves to show your saved game files. Use a flash drive or other method to transfer the files from your hard drive, and then place then in the same folder on the computer to which you want to move them.

Hopefully this information will help you if you need to move Minecraft files on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

Minecraft is an amazing and complex game which my 8th grade son is loving to play. I hope to record at least one screencast interview with him next week and get him to share some of what he's learned to do in and as a result of the game. Lots of problem solving, reading, and math use going on in Minecraft!
